The beautiful thing about Fiji is the remoteness of its reefs. Sure its not as easy as surfing your home beach break, to surf is always a mission here, but with that comes a major perk. If Cloudbreak was accessible from a simple paddle out from a mainland beach the dynamic in the water would be completely different! There would be squatting surfers living in shacks for months at a time making them feel like locals with clout in the line up. Luckily its still expensive enough that its impracticable for traveling surfers to stay in Fiji long enough to gain such "clout." Its a phenomenon to have such a world class wave with so little territorialism in the water. Dont be fooled, there are locals here but your more likely to get a friendly smile when paddling out instead of the traditional mad dog stare down. Stoked to be able to surf in a line up with out grumpy locals.
