![]() SAD – Surfers Against Destruction, Resource Custodians of Cloudbreak Reef – Tabanivono Surf Club, Vodo Ua Boardriders Club with surfers in Fiji and around the world have applauded the Bainimarama Government for their assertive efforts in shutting down Cloud 9. This is a momentous occasion for us as this ensures the Government is supporting our stance in protecting and preserving our God given resources as well sending a strong message to others that want to manipulate the Surf Decree and the resources for their own agendas. If we don't stand up and look after Fiji no one else will – as Fijian's we have a responsibility to preserve these areas and manage it in a responsible manner. These reefs and islands are rated by the best surfers in the world as the number one destination to surf – we should be proud of that! I'm happy to hear the Government is also considering our stance of setting up a National Marine Reserve so that no more unscrupulous, disrespectful operators and surfers will come and do as they like. What we do today will effect future generations in how they identify and enjoy the natural beauty of Fiji. Those that condemn what the Government has done must not forget that in July of 2010 the Surf Decree came out which allowed everybody to surf freely without having to pay or be stopped from enjoying Fiji's amazing waves - this is the only law in the world that has been specifically done for all surfers and the protection of our surfing areas – we should be very grateful! Therefore we can not manipulate the system for ones selfish monetary gain at the expense of the resources or Fiji's reputation to keep a healthy and safe country for all.
